classification essay
The ability to classify is a very basic skill requirement among students, that is, if they wish to be successful. Since classification skills are very easy to come by, any student who has well-developed writing skills should do fairly in this feat.
But before you even get to the nitty-gritty of the process, you must first settle the question of what it is you will be classifying (choosing the topic). You must choose a topic that captures your interest. This will make the whole process a lot easier.
In congruence to the basic rules when writing an essay, you can divide your categories into three main elements. This way you make up for three body paragraphs. Adding up the three body paragraphs to the introduction and the conclusion equals to the traditional five-paragraph essay format.
Don’t get the wrong idea though. Traditional doesn’t always mean appropriate. You have to tailor fit your format to the specific requirements of the type of essay you are composing. So if deemed necessary, don’t hesitate to deviate from the common five-paragraph format.
One basic requirement you need to follow though is that you must focus on one category for each paragraph. This way, you gain coherence and you don’t confuse your readers.
Aside from describing only one category for each paragraph, it is also advised that you arrange your categories so that they follow an order that starts from the least important to the most important idea. You can give more focus on your last body paragraph.
Your classification essay need not be a daunting task, not when all that is required are basic skills in classification and written communication.
